No Mow May

The Lancaster Conservation Commission (LCC) encourages your participation in its No Mow May initiative. During the month of May, residents are encouraged not to mow, water, or fertilize their lawn.

The start of the growing season is a critical time for hungry pollinators as they search for their first food source, and by participating, you will increase their food source and avoid disturbing the beneficial insects that hide in the dead leaves and lawns. Leaves left on the ground provide important insulation for bees hibernating underground and for moths and butterflies that overwinter in the leaves.

The Town of Lancaster will again support this conservation effort and will participate in No Mow May at Soldiers Park at the junction of Routes 2 and 3.

LCC will provide a free reusable No Mow May sign for Lancaster residents to display in their yards throughout the month of May. Sign pick up is Tuesday, April 22 from 10 am to Noon at the Town Office while supplies last, limit one per yard.
