The Babe Smith Memorial Park ice rink is getting ready for another great skating season! On Tuesday, October 21, committee members replaced several weakened and rotted boards, installed new ones, and painted them to match the recently refreshed rink boards. Netting has also been installed at both ends of the rink.
Next on the list is cleaning the decking, painting the darker spots to reduce heat absorption during skating season, and installing new yellow kick plates. The warming hut will also receive a thorough cleaning and equipment servicing so the rink will be ready for ice making and skating when temperatures allow in December.
A special thank-you goes out to Joel “Popeye” Gainer for his work expertise and an anonymous donor whose generous contribution covered all of the painting costs.
